Farm Girl

I know I haven't posted anything new for a while but I am trying to start blogging again.
I finished up my 6th quarter in school and made the following garments for my final.

I was inspired by 1920's 1930's American or European Farm Women.
The hood was made of lace and inspired by head scarves the women wore.
The exaggerated pockets were made by hand, I cut different squares of fabrics to get the quilting affect.

Chocolate Festival

This Sunday was the chocolate festival at Aventura mall here in Miami. Students from our school made garments out of chocolate and wrappers. I participated and here is the skirt and corset I made. I didn't win any of the places but it was on display at the mall.

I made a corset with a peplum skirt. Covered the bust in hershey kisses.
I made two of the panels out of a hershey kiss package.
The skirt is covered in hershey kiss foil with a red zipper in front.

"In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings"

I made a light pink Bandeau top yesterday. I sewed creme lace on top of it and added a fake sweet pea flower to embellish it.

I feel like I'm starting to develop my own style as a designer.
whimsical, bohemian, girly, romantic, free spirited are things to describe the feel of my design style.

Enjoy!

Bohemian Beauty

I was in a helpless search for a maxi skirt long enough for my never ending legs.
I decided I would just make one myself.

I found an old maxi dress that was getting too short for me so I cut it and sewed in a waistband.

Now I can wear the skirt and top separate or together.

For a more coverage I wore the skirt with a white tank top and my jacket.

Original Creation

Last night I could not fall asleep due to this idea of making  an over sized clutch from floral fabric I had.
I decided to get up and make it.

I used a floral upholstery fabric for the body.
The inside is lined with turquoise silk.
I sewed in a Velcro clasp.

The fabric is very good sturdy quality.
